27 Mai CLOUD HED Featured in “Protecting Academia at Risk” Podcast Series
WPZ Research Senior Researcher Verena Régent was invited to the podcast series Protecting Academia at Risk: Towards a New Policy Agenda for a Thriving Culture of Higher Education in Europe to discuss recent findings from the Erasmus+-funded project CLOUD HED – Disaster Resilience in Higher Education Systems via a Cloud University Model.
In the conversation with Elena Trifan, the episode focuses on how higher education institutions respond to war, armed conflict, forced displacement, and broader systemic crises. The discussion addresses institutional resilience, emergency-driven digital transformation, crisis-sensitive teaching and learning, academic well-being, and the importance of human relationships and solidarity in sustaining higher education under conditions of disruption and uncertainty.
The episode also introduces the forthcoming edited volume Higher Education in Times of War and Crisis: Institutional Resilience, Responses, and Preparedness in Contexts of Armed Conflict and Systemic Disruption, expected to be published by Brill in late 2026. Developed within the framework of the CLOUD HED project, the volume explores institutional responses to crisis through case studies covering contemporary contexts such as Ukraine and Israel, historical examples including World War II and the former Yugoslavia, as well as anticipatory perspectives from Poland and Latvia.
The podcast series Protecting Academia at Risk explores the fragility and ambiguity of academic freedom, the challenges faced by scholars and institutions under pressure, and emerging forms of academic solidarity across Europe and beyond.
